Course
Title: MANAGING IN TWO CULTURES
(Cultural Awareness for Employers of Hispanics)
Developed and Presented by:
BridgeWorks, Inc.
The terms Hispanic and Latino refer to people who were born in the Spanish-speaking countries of the world.
Like any other population, they share many common characteristics, values, traditions, and customs that make them unique as a group.
Many of the things that make Hispanics unique as a group are the very things that create the differences between us that we, and they, struggle to cope with in the workplace every day.
As employers and supervisors, it is important for us to understand and appreciate these differences. Only then can we bridge the gap between our two cultures and work together more productively.
These differences, and how to deal with them, are the subjects of our program.
Managing In Two Cultures will teach you:
-
Why some Hispanic workers consider personal initiative, innovation and creativity on the job as signs of disrespect to the manager or supervisor.
-
How many Hispanics respond to American style coaching, and why it might be costing you some of your best employees.
-
What motivates a Hispanic worker to be productive and loyal to the company.
-
How many Hispanics view and carry out work instructions and responsibility.
-
The fundamental differences between Latin American educational methods and ours, and how those differences affect you and your Hispanic employees.
-
Why your style of communication might seem crude and aggressive to your Hispanic workers, and how it affects their work.
-
Why most Hispanics look at the whole concept of time differently than you do, and how to deal with the difference in the workplace.
-
Why Hispanic workers virtually always say they understand you and agree with you - even when they don't!
-
Why many Hispanics feel the American workplace lacks emotion and personal sensitivity, and how it affects their productivity and motivation.
-
Why it's critical for you to understand the importance of home and family to the Hispanic worker.
