Course Title: PROJECTS PLUS
(Fundamentals of Project Management)
As the way we work changes, we are spending less and less of our time doing traditional jobs, and more of our time working on projects. For many of us this can be a big challenge for two reasons: first, we don't have a good process for managing a project from start to finish, and second, because
we don't know how to enlist the help and support of other people who are critical to the project's success.
This two-day workshop addresses both of these issues. It takes you step-by-step through the process of developing a project plan, and it teaches you the soft skills you need to work with other people and achieve your project's objectives.
When you leave this workshop you'll take with you a detailed project plan for one of your real world projects and the skills and confidence you need to successfully implement it.
Workshop Overview
SECTION 1 - CLARITY OF PURPOSE
Many projects are doomed to failure before they begin because project managers fail to clearly define what their projects are intended to achieve.
In section one you learn the project definition process. We discuss each step in the process and you immediately apply what you have learned to the definition of your real-world project.
SECTION 2 - PROJECT PLANNING
In section two you learn how do develop a clear, straightforward, and effective project plan. You learn how to clarify your objectives and the steps you need to take to achieve them; you learn how to identify potential pitfalls in your plan and what you'll can do about them; and you learn how to monitor your project's progress and keep it on target.
SECTION 3 - PROJECT CONTROL
Section 3 examines project control. It addresses deviations from project plans and how to handle them, and discusses personal time and priority management.
SECTION 4 - PROJECT LEADERSHIP
In this section you learn about the most important aspects of project leadership and how you can become a more effective project leader. You'll gain new knowledge and learn new skills in several areas, including interpersonal communication, project team leadership, meeting leadership, and decision making and problem solving.
You'll end the workshop with an interesting and entertaining exercise that puts you and your co-participants in a simulated life-threatening situation that you have to resolve.
