Title: TECHNIQUES FOR PROBLEM SOLVING
(Analytical Problem Solving & Decision Making)
We have the most powerful computer in the world right between our ears. Why then do we sometimes find it so difficult to make even simple decisions that we're confident of? And why when we attempt to solve a problem is the result often disappointing?
The answer is that these powerful brains of ours, because they are so powerful, often lead us astray in the problem solving and decision making process.
This one-day workshop teaches you why the way we think often makes it difficult for us to arrive at the best conclusion, and it teaches you techniques that will dramatically improve your decision making and problem solving skills.
Workshop Overview
SECTION 1 - THINKING ABOUT THINKING
This section looks at how people instinctively approach problem situations and why this approach often doesn't result in the most effective solutions. We'll cover topics such as how our emotions undermine our objectivity, how mental shortcuts that we use short-circuit the problem solving process, and why we find it so easy to find evidence that supports our point of view and so difficult to find evidence against it.
SECTION 2 - PROBLEM SOLVING TOOLS
In section two you'll learn powerful techniques for analyzing and solving problems effectively.
You'll learn how to analyze the problem or decision you are faced with, and how to organize the decision making or problem solving process.
You'll also learn how to approach a problem or decision objectively, and how to examine it from multiple angles so you get all the information you need to reach the right conclusion.
And you'll learn how to identify which factors you need to consider as you go through the decision making and problem solving process, and which to disregard.
SECTION 3 - PUTTING IT ALL TOGETHER
In this section you practice the problem solving techniques you have learned by combining them and applying them to various problem situations.
