Course Title:   It’s Not Just What You Say

(Effective Interpersonal Communication)

Our ability to communicate with other people is arguably our most important asset, both personally and at work.  It directly affects our relationships, our self-esteem, and our careers.

The bad news is that effective communication skills aren’t something we’re born with – they have to be learned.  The good news is that this workshop will teach you more in two days about communicating effectively with other people than you ever imagined possible.

In fact, when you finish this two-day workshop we guarantee that you will be able to communicate more effectively with virtually anyone in any situation.

 Workshop Overview

Part 1 – The Basics
Part one begins by looking at rapport, and why it is the most important prerequisite to effective communication.

It continues by teaching you how to say what you have to say clearly, concisely, and in a way that makes sense to the person you are talking to as he or she hears it.

You’ll also learn how to be a powerful listener.  You’ll learn the difference between merely hearing what another person is saying and actively listening to them.

And, we’ll show you how to get more and higher quality information from the speaker, how to objectively interpret what the speaker is saying, and how to understand the speaker from his or her perspective.

Part 2 – Personality Types and Communication Styles
In part two you’ll learn how personality type affects communication style.  You’ll learn how to recognize and communicate more effectively with each of the basic types, and how to quickly build rapport and credibility with anyone.

Part 3 – The Power of Non-verbal Communication
More than 90% of the information exchanged between people is unconscious and involuntary, and our ability to recognize and interpret that information can make the difference between us being an average communicator and an exceptional one.

In this part of the workshop you’ll learn how to recognize non-verbal signals, and how to interpret them so you have a deeper understanding of the speaker and the message.

Part 4 – Conflict and Communication
Conflict is a fact of life.  Unfortunately, most of us aren’t very good at handling it, and when we’re faced with it, all too often the result is hurt feelings, animosity, and anger.

In this part of the workshop you’ll learn the five basic approaches people take to dealing with conflict and how they behave when they find themselves in conflict situations, and you’ll learn how to deal with conflict constructively.

Part 5 – Continuous Improvement
The last part of the workshop is a self-development tool that takes you through the process of identifying your strengths and weaknesses as a communicator, and helps you develop a plan for continuously improving your communication skills.
